happy belated presidents day.
phil and i went to the 9-0 before the ucla game. the ratio was horribly bad (most people were there for the game). but the beer was cheap. 4 dollars for a domestic. and 2 for 1! so 2 bucks a beer! awesome. after drinking we walked over to chano's which ruled as always.
the ucla game didn't rule. ucla didn't even play great but we had no shot just playing 6 dudes the whole game.
finally closing in on the wedding venue/date. 2 things i've really realized while planning this. 1) you can't invite everyone you want to invite. thats obvious i guess. 2) don't try to compare your wedding to other ones. just try to make it the best possible it can be. this ones a little tough too. it seems that everyone (within friends, family) tends to compare weddings. (i guess its like comparing cars, jobs, and houses, its human nature).
anyways, we're trying our best not to get caught up in all the hype and just make sure its fun cuz in the end, all that counts is the open bar and the pictures.
missi and i got engaged.
just some quick facts about it:
first person we told: cece cuz we were at vegas and we hung out with her that night.
first person i called (non family): kevin maggay
first person i introduced her as my fiance: ron lao after church in glendale.
where we got engaged: in front of the bellagio by the water.
when: thursday july 26th (it was wed the 25th but it was after midnight)
when will the wedding be: jan 09 at the absolute earliest.
thanks everyone for all the congrats. esp to blau and my old roommates for throwing something last night for us.
here's my best man speech. will blog more about my bros wedding later.
'Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen. My name is John Michael Burgos and I am the best man. Yes my first name is John, just like my little brother. Thanks once again mom and dad.
I would like to begin by welcoming the Burgos, Netto, Gonzales and Mangosing Families as well as friends of John and Marsinah. I look around and see that some of you have traveled from as far away as Hawaii, Washington, and New York. Wow these two must be a big deal or something.
So just to start off, I have to admit that I'm not the greatest public speaker in the world. So when I was trying to put this speech together, I did what any normal person would do....look up "best man speech" on google. And after sifting through all the information on the web, the one idea that resonated across the board was, "make the speech come from the heart". After reading that I knew I was in big trouble.
Being John (or Bernard's) older brother used to be fun. Beat him up, make him cry, put him in a figure four leg lock, you know typical big brother stuff. Then of course he grew up and got bigger than me. And me being the older, wiser brother, decided that it would be in my best interest to be his friend and to start being nice to him.
Now look at him, Pasadena police officer, US marine back from Iraq, USC graduate, a homeowner and he even works out. Wow good catch marsinah.
In all serious, my little brother has grown from a chubby big, eyed kid to a responsible, dare I even say handsome young man. My mom always said she wanted a daughter. Now she has one. Welcome to the family Marsinah.
On that note, a toast to the bride and groom. Everyone raise their glasses. I actually stole this from something Father Raymond said today at the wedding...
To Bernard and Marsinah, may your love tomorrow be even greater than your love today.
To the bride and groom!"
