Hi Everyone. Missi here. Burgs has been busy lately so I'm going to keep you posted on what he's been up to.

  • Grad school. Lots of homework, exams, projects, meetings, and commuting.
  • New job. Well, sort of.
  • Marathon Training. Yep, another one in the fall! Wish him luck.
  • Wedding Plans. Meetings, discussions, questions, emails, payments, and just listening to me babble.
  • Fantasy Football. Yes, I know how much of a fan he is. And I know that he won't give this up when we get married or when we begin a family. It makes him happy so I'm ok with that.
  • Lakers vs. Celtics. You all know who he's rooting for.

bridal festival

i went to a bridal festival with missi yesterday. don't laugh. it was reminiscent of the dudes sitting on the sidelines at forever 21 or express carrying a ton of bags wishing they knew the score of the lakers game.

actually it wasn't so bad. i haven't seen such a concentration of hot chicks in...i don't know when i've seen that many in that small of an area. and it makes sense too. these aren't desperate chicks at the club trying to find a man to love them for who they are....all these chicks have found men! so they're not repulsive or anything. and...they were all relatively young...so they were pretty much all in their prime. a perfect place to meet chicks except well...they're all already taken.

the 9-0

happy belated presidents day.

phil and i went to the 9-0 before the ucla game. the ratio was horribly bad (most people were there for the game). but the beer was cheap. 4 dollars for a domestic. and 2 for 1! so 2 bucks a beer! awesome. after drinking we walked over to chano's which ruled as always.

the ucla game didn't rule. ucla didn't even play great but we had no shot just playing 6 dudes the whole game.

finally closing in on the wedding venue/date. 2 things i've really realized while planning this. 1) you can't invite everyone you want to invite. thats obvious i guess. 2) don't try to compare your wedding to other ones. just try to make it the best possible it can be. this ones a little tough too. it seems that everyone (within friends, family) tends to compare weddings. (i guess its like comparing cars, jobs, and houses, its human nature).

anyways, we're trying our best not to get caught up in all the hype and just make sure its fun cuz in the end, all that counts is the open bar and the pictures.

awtr

went to the sc/washington game on saturday. finally we won a pac 10 game!

accompanied missi as she checked out some venues. its official, the wedding planning has officially began.

ran 10 miles on sat with rudy. first time to run 10 since september i think? gonna try to keep it up and run 12 this saturday.

watched awtr. it was ok. i didn't cry at all. but i do feel sad for mandy moore now. even though i know she's really alive and all.

i signed up for this in april. its a half marathon in paso robles. i don't think i've been there since joe ortiz's barn parties back when i was at sc still.

great. oj mayo and daniel hackett may (or may not) have had an altercation.

great link whoever posted arbost's call of the sc/nd drive from 2 years ago. great way to spend my lunchbreak listening to that again.

awesome news, they just opened up the iphone for 3rd party application development! ok i'll turn down the geeky factor just a little bit now.

missi and i met with joan b yesterday. she's our new wedding planner.

usf lost! we're one step closer to playing in the national championship! just kidding, lets take care of business vs the irish first! beat nd!

which way is this turning for you guys? i see it going counterclockwise.

the list

proposing to missi wasn't the hard part. asking her dad was definitely harder. but hardest of all is coming up with...the list.

i don't want to overstate it but its a pretty big deal. i mean if you invite someone (or don't) you are sending a pretty clear message about where you stand with that person. and its tough. i really want to invite everyone. trust me i do. but its just not feasible.

there are tricky things too. if they have an s.o. do u have to invite them? what if they invited you to their wedding but you aren't that close anymore? its tough.

anyways, as for the rest of my vegas trip. we checked out cece's show at the mgm, ka. really cool. its the first show i've ever seen in vegas and i liked it alot. esp since it was free.

checked out tao. i don't know. i figure u've been to one club, you've been to them all right? i guess i don't get the hype machine built around this place.

checked out the wynn buffet. still think the bellagio buffet is the best one out there.

another thing i don't get. investment homes in las vegas. why exactly are these supposedto be appreciate? i thought rule number one of econ is supply and demand. it seems like there is unlimited supply of desert (so an unlimited supply of land to build on). so why exactly will someone want to buy your house out there? wouldn't they rather just get a new one?

this catches my eye every time i drive out to vegas on the i-15.

my best man speech

here's my best man speech. will blog more about my bros wedding later.

'Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen. My name is John Michael Burgos and I am the best man. Yes my first name is John, just like my little brother. Thanks once again mom and dad.

I would like to begin by welcoming the Burgos, Netto, Gonzales and Mangosing Families as well as friends of John and Marsinah. I look around and see that some of you have traveled from as far away as Hawaii, Washington, and New York. Wow these two must be a big deal or something.

So just to start off, I have to admit that I'm not the greatest public speaker in the world. So when I was trying to put this speech together, I did what any normal person would do....look up "best man speech" on google. And after sifting through all the information on the web, the one idea that resonated across the board was, "make the speech come from the heart". After reading that I knew I was in big trouble.

Being John (or Bernard's) older brother used to be fun. Beat him up, make him cry, put him in a figure four leg lock, you know typical big brother stuff. Then of course he grew up and got bigger than me. And me being the older, wiser brother, decided that it would be in my best interest to be his friend and to start being nice to him.

Now look at him, Pasadena police officer, US marine back from Iraq, USC graduate, a homeowner and he even works out. Wow good catch marsinah.

In all serious, my little brother has grown from a chubby big, eyed kid to a responsible, dare I even say handsome young man. My mom always said she wanted a daughter. Now she has one. Welcome to the family Marsinah.

On that note, a toast to the bride and groom. Everyone raise their glasses. I actually stole this from something Father Raymond said today at the wedding...

To Bernard and Marsinah, may your love tomorrow be even greater than your love today.

To the bride and groom!
