i'm diehard usc. like shawn george once said , "i'm not a fan. i'm an alum." but at the same time, i try to look at things objectively.
i'm dissapointed about the rulings, i can't lie. no need to go into the details, i'm sure you've seen them if you watch espn or have picked up a newspoper. as a season ticket holder since my freshman year (94-95), its tough.
as an owner of a #5 jersey, i'm particularly dissapointed in reggie bush. but at the same time, i understand. reggie and his family thought they needed a money and they found a way. not the right way to go about it, but who am i to judge, i wasn't in their situation. even if he does not have to face a jury, he has to be tried under the court of public opinion, which may in fact be not as forgiving.
that being said, i truly hope the administration and coaching staff at the time didn't know about these wrongdoings. i believe they didn't but i don't know all the facts.
who do i feel bad for in all of this? of course the kids who will be punished who had nothing to do with this. this always happens, its a part of life. someone will make a mistake and get away with it. and someone will have to pay the price for it. call it a life lesson.
i know an appeal is forthcoming. i'm hoping the sentence is reduced. but in the end, what is there that can be done as fan? as an alum?
it may be a long two years. i'm sure all the usc haters are very happy to hear this. and people will take this opportunity to kick the program while its down. other bandwagon fans will detach their usc flags from their cars.
but for the true fans and alum, there is nothing to do but "fight on". this too, shall pass.
preface this by saying i'm a huge trojan fan and normally i boo most things from westwood. but not diddy reese. and definitely not coach wooden.
here are some quotes from a very wise man.
-Things turn out best for the people who make the best of the way things turn out.
-Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are.
-Don't measure yourself by what you have accomplished, but by what you should have accomplished with your ability.
and my absolute favorite...
-It's what you learn after you know it all that counts.
edit:
apparently coach wooden just passed away. he was 99. rip coach.
