don't know why i took so long to get around to it, but here's my take on inception:
big christopher nolan fan. loved memento, the batmans, and the prestige. the cast? awesome top to bottom, (leonardo, ellen, jgl, caine) not enough can be said about the casting. music? hans zimmer makes magic out of a fog horn.
i can't say enough good things about this movie. but i have come across some negative reviews. some critics saying the movie didn't work on an "emotional" level. i dunno, it worked for me. i felt you really wanted leonardo to work his stuff out and come out of this one on top.
"Ariadne: Why is it so important to dream?
Cobb: Because, in my dreams we are together. "
totally reminds me of this quote:
"I think we dream so we don't have to be apart so long. If we're in each other's dreams, we can be together all the time."
-Calvin and Hobbes
this one definitely deserves a second viewing.
"Every person who's changed the world or built an empire has sat where you're sitting now". - up in the air
i realize that i am a big loser. i have lost a countless number of times.
and my goal this year? to lose more than i have ever lost before.
how does that even make sense? well it is because i believe that the most successful people are those that really go for it. and well when you really go for it, things aren't always going to go your way.
yeah you could "play it safe" or "play it close to the vest" but how much are you really challenging yourself? how much are you truly growing? because i always believe that to truly grow, you'll have to step out of that comfort zone.
i've lost a million times. when it comes to relationships, running, work, school, basketball, etc.
"If I had to select one quality, one personal characteristic that I regard as being most highly correlated with success, whatever the field, I would pick the trait of persistence. Determination. The will to endure to the end, to get knocked down seventy times and get up off the floor saying, "Here comes number seventy-one!" - Richard M. DeVos
its why i tell people my favorite athlete is peyton manning. because he lost MANY times before he finally won. and he admitted each time he lost, that he gave it his all. all too many times, when we lose, we give an excuse why we lose. or we don't try 100% so IF we lose, we have an excuse to why we lost (again, the 4th barrier that coelho discusses).
"Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you're kind, amazing things will happen. - Conan O'Brien
time to work really hard and be persistent, even when (not if) things don't always go my way. because noone wants to live a life of regret. and we don't get do-overs.
before this year, i had only seen two movies in the theatre by myself:
in 1983, my dad dropped me off at the movies. i distinctly remember him giving money to a black kid who worked at the theatre (kid being relative as i was only 7 at the time) to make sure i got in to the right movie. my dad picked me up when it was over. the movie was return of the jedi.
a few years ago i watched 6th sense by myself at laughlin. i didn't feel alone since it was opening weekend and it was sold out.
this year, i've seen alot of movies by myself.
saw (500) days of summer today. i highly recommend it.
just caught slumdog with missi on saturday. wow what a great movie. it reminded me of my time in india last year. i def didn't see any indian chicks as hot as latika though.
good new office yesterday. a bit dissapointed by the alba cameo.
great superbowl, i got what i wanted, a great game.
put in 30 miles this weekend. 2 on friday at the gym, a 17 mile run on saturday. and an 11 mile hike up mt wilson on sunday.
i can't help it. i'm addicted to reading everybody's "25 random things" on facebook.
i finally saw tropic thunder on dvd (thanks blau!) since i'm perhaps the last person in the world to see it, i don't think anything i'll say is a spoiler (well if you haven't seen it, stop reading!)
anyhow, i thought the big 3 stole the show. no not jack black, ben stiller, and downey jr. i'm talking bill hader (btw, am i the only one who always gets him and will forte mixed up?), matthew mcconaughey, and tc. (will post this on youtube even though i know it'll be taken off a few hours later).
running a 5k this sunday at la canada. after signing up, i realized that the day before is the notre dame game. its just a 5k? maybe i'll just race it hung over.
happy thanksgivings everyone! for the first time ever, i'll be working the friday AFTER thanksgiving. ugh.
